Titan Abrasive Systems, a designer and manufacturer of quality surface preparation, surface finishing and sandblasting equipment, has had a fully equipped blast room and paint booth purchased by Bolt Construction Inc., a general contractor specializing in pipe fabrication and plant construction. Both the blast room and paint booth will be located at the company’s headquarters in Youngstown, Ohio.

According to Todd Miller, president of Bolt Construction, the Titan equipment will be instrumental in streamlining internal operations and efficiencies to help the company maintain a competitive edge in the fabrication and piping industries. These purchases will also play a part in helping Bolt bring in components from companies in other industries, enabling the painting and coating division to generate revenue streams.

The blast room measures 16 × 16 × 50 ft. and includes a mechanical abrasive recovery system with a 16-ft. cross auger. It is also accompanied by a 14,000-cfm dust collection system. The paint booth is the same size and includes a heated air makeup unit for paint curing.

Miller notes that the equipment was necessary to bring the company’s core operations up to speed. “Since we specialize in the fabrication of pipe and structural components, painting and coating play a significant role in the operation of our business,” he says. “A critical step in that process is the abrasive blasting that’s used to create an ideal surface for optimal paint adhesion. This new equipment brings both the blasting and painting processes up to an entirely new standard of quality and efficiency. And it opens the door for us to take on outside projects with complete confidence that we can deliver superior results.”

Bolt will take delivery of the equipment in spring 2024, with an initiation date of June 1 for the first products to roll through the booths.

PPG is partnering with Satys, a French industrial group active in aircraft sealing, painting and surface treatment.

PPG and Entrotech Inc. have formed a joint venture that will provide paint film solutions to automotive and industrial customers.

Fab-Tek of Central Mississippi will use the blast room to clean and polish the stainless-steel metal conveyor systems the company designs.
