JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office police officer was shot in the line of duty and now officer Malik Daricaud is fighting for his life in the hospital. Sources tell Action News Jax the 25-year-old was shot in the neck and body worn camera video shows the devastating moments leading up to the gunfire.
Sheriff T.K. Waters said he’s in the X-Ray task force, which looks to get illegal guns and dangerous drugs and narcotics off the streets. The task force he’s in followed up on an investigation from March 19 when suspect Tyliko Maduro sped away from a traffic stop. Black Steel Door
At around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, officers showed up at the home on Ridgeview Avenue and knocked on the door several times.
Officers reportedly heard a female inside the house but they kept knocking until the voice went silent.
Officers eventually made contact with the mother and told her to head to the scene. She walked up to the front door and unlocked it, but the officers did not go inside.
But as soon as the door was opened, Maduro reportedly opened fire on the officers, seriously injuring one. Bodycam footage shows the officer being shot from Maduro’s point of view.

“The officer is currently in the hospital fighting for his life,” said Sheriff T.K. Waters in a statement to the press during the shooting media briefing.
The officer remains in critical condition. Waters visited the officer at the hospital where he was verbal but able to be understood.
According to JSO, Maduro fired multiple shots inside the house with a semi-automatic weapon before ultimately taking his own life. The suspect had no prior convictions on his record, and it remains unclear why he opened fire on the officers.

The officer that was injured has been identified as Officer Malik Daricaud.
SWAT team officers were called to the scene and surrounded the house. JSO is continuing to investigate the incident.
Governor Ron Desantis released a statement on Twitter on the shooting of Daricaud.
This morning, Officer Malik Daricaud was shot in the line of duty and remains in critical condition. @CaseyDeSantis and I are praying for his recovery and the entire @JSOPIO community during this time.
This is an ongoing investigation and will be updated when details arrive.

Update 11:48 a.m.: According to sources, the suspect involved in the officer-involved shooting took their own life. The officer is still reported to be in critical condition after he was shot in the neck.

Update 11:28 a.m.: Morse Avenue is back open, Parkview Ridge neighborhood is still blocked off.
According to a Tweet by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, an officer has been shot and has been transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
This incident happened around Morse Avenue.
Morse Avenue is closed between Firestone Road and Skyler Jean Drive.
JSO advises avoiding the area.
JSO has asked the residents to shelter in place.
Officers are attempting to put the suspect into custody.
