Nightstands are the final home decor touch that every bedroom needs. After choosing a quality mattress and a good-looking, sturdy bed frame, the best nightstands can pull the room together and keep your space free of clutter. These bedside tables also serve as a base for infusing the bedroom with some interior design personality (think decorative table lamps, catchall trays, or a wellness-wired alarm clock).

Read on to learn more about the multifunctional nightstands that have us ready to turn on the light, pick up a book, and get cozy in bed. We’ve sectioned our picks by type, so if you already know what you’re looking for, click the link below.

We’ve sourced 21 of the very best nightstands with different styles for every aesthetic: From minimalist metal picks and trending luxe leather finds to coastal cane bedside tables, traditional options, boho finds, and more. But there are a few things to consider before you go all in on a bedside table.

To see a few of our favorite nightstands styled by AD editors, check out our Nightstand Diaries.

Think about how much room you have and how cluttered your space may be before the nightstand hits the bedroom. If space is tight, consider a floating nightstand that doesn’t take up any footprint. If you go that route, make sure to follow the installation instructions carefully and take note of the total weight capacity.

Tabletop space is another important consideration for when you’re looking at nightstand shapes. Most of the time, round nightstands will offer less surface area than a square or rectangular design. If making a statement is more what you’re after, think about breaking out of the traditional silhouette. There are all kinds of forms out there, from squiggles to rounded corners.

And finally, the biggest question! Are there things you like to have nearby while you snooze but don’t really want out in the open? If so, it’s best to look for something with a drawer. Luckily, many bedside tables assume the need. More sculptural nightstands tend to skip the storage space, so it is something to consider if you’re going for art over function.

This classy nightstand has a small but refined footprint, making it ideal for small spaces. Details like the marble top and crossover brass bars between slim legs give the piece an elegant feel. The nightstand is available in two sizes and is sold individually or as a set of two.

Rebecca Grambone, associate social media manager, was impressed by the storage space provided by this piece from Article and was won over by its elegant looks, saying that “the wood of the Nera is superrich in color and smooth to the touch.” We think the metal drawer handle is also a lovely touch.

Available in mango wood, this quirky side table looks like it popped right out of a video game. While the spacious drawer will hold all of your out-of-sight essentials, the tabletop is large enough for a bedside lamp, a few favorite books, and that glass of nighttime water.

AllModern Larson Solid Wood Nightstand

We love a simplistic, midcentury-modern style—suitable to most bedroom furniture aesthetics—and this pick’s cutout handles and slightly angled legs make it a real standout. Shop the white nightstand in caramel, walnut, white, or black.

If you’re looking for a round nightstand to soften your space, look no further than the Tabitha from Urban Outfitters. AD PRO editor Mel Studach put it to the test and couldn’t sing its praises enough: “Not only does the slender form pair well with nearly any design aesthetic,” she said in her review, “but it offers two rotable sides: one closed off for minimalist, clutter-free vibes, and the other exposed for piled-on panache.”

Cortez Natural Floating Nightstand by Leanne Ford

While it’s not technically a floating nightstand, the curved silhouette of the tabletop and the narrow legs do offer a faint optical illusion. The wood grain is also beautifully on display, thanks to designer Leanne Ford’s attention to the clean lines of this design.

The Thuma bed frame has been a top seller among Clever readers for a few years now. We imagine fans of the sustainable furniture brand will be happy to accessorize their frames with these equally thoughtful Greenguard Gold Certified nightstands, available in walnut, espresso, or natural stains. A big plus: The nightstand doesn’t require any assembly and uses Japanese joinery techniques to get rid of the need for any hardware–a pull-out drawer slides into place without metal tracks for longevity. The smart touches don’t stop there. Need more height? Optional cork-padded legs can be provided. Worried about your belongings slipping and sliding off the smooth wood surface? Beveled edges keep things in place. Looking for more storage? A subtle bottom shelf allows for stacking anything you might need within reach.

This frills-free nightstand gives you plenty of extra storage. Plus, you’ve got height options: This tall nightstand is available with three drawers (as seen), as well as a two-drawer configuration. Shop the night table in black, drifted gray, white, and espresso (pictured). And, if you want to add a little more personal flavor, you can always swap out the drawer pulls.

This Wayfair best-selling black nightstand requires minimal assembly and delivers maximum style, also available as a matching dresser and storage bench. Seen here in black, the storage nightstand comes in additional shades including teal, gray, and white.

Though it’s lightweight and currently under $200, the Portman bedside cabinet packs a lot into its narrow MDF frame–making it a great choice if you’re short on floor space. Aside from the ample storage and easy-to-clean exterior, there’s also a charging station with two USB ports nestled into the back panel of the drawer. Available in three neutral colors, linen panels give the exterior an added depth.

Sarah Sherman Samuel Knob Nightstand

This is the kind of design you want to assign a cute name to. Yes, it’s part of the West Elm Kids collection, but this playful shape would add just the right amount of personality to an adult’s sleeping space. The matching vanity is also something to consider, if you’re in the market for a cohesive bedroom vibe.

The ribbed texture and low-profile drawer pulls make this modern bedside table stand out.

West Elm Volume Square Side Table (20") - Burl

According to design editor Sydney Gore, “Anyone curating natural vibes in their space will want to check out West Elm’s burl side table, which looks almost identical to pricier vintage designs.”

Anthropologie Quillen Marquetry Side Table

True, it’s technically a nightstand, but we could see this working as an end table in your living room or home office too. The octagonal design is a fresh take, and the brushed brass bottom and knobs give this piece added sophistication. The tabletop is sealed with lacquer for protection. If you’re a fan of the style, definitely check out Anthropologie’s entire Quillen collection (which includes everything from entryway consoles to dining room tables).

What this bedside table lacks in storage, it makes up for in style. It’s a lovely accent for a small space that gives you enough surface for a pretty plant and candle. Seen here in white, it’s also available in terra-cotta and blush pink as well as in two diameters: 13" or 16".

The sweet scalloped details on this wicker side table make it a charming addition to our bedside table roundup. It’s all about style and storage with this piece, which is versatile enough to be placed in a living room, patio, or entryway. Whether you’re a coastal grandma or just want a slightly bohemian touch with natural fibers, this side table would make for a lovely nightstand.

This winsome wood nightstand that gives major White Lotus vibes features a bone inlay of lush vines and a thin, brushed brass frame. The nightstand is available in light gray or navy (pictured).

Dimensions: 25"H x 18"W x 14"D Material: Tropical hardwood and engineered wood Storage: Single drawer

This storage unit is an iconic design by Kartell and is produced in a ton of rich colors, from moss green and blush pink to a vibrant yellow and toffee brown. While it can quite literally be used in any room or corner of the house, it works wonders as a nightstand with plenty of storage potential. Organizers will love this option for its versatility.

PS: This is also one of our editors’ favorite nightstands–check out our Nightstand Diaries to see how we styled it.

USM Haller P Bedside Table

The Haller by USM may not be the cheapest option on the list, but it’s a classic of modern design. The form dates back to the early 1960s (designed by Fritz Haller and Paul Schaerer) and is still made in Switzerland today. “Even on gloomy days, my USM Haller P nightstand is a sunny spot in my space,” says commerce editor Audrey Lee.

West Elm Curved Terrace Nightstand

Get yourself a modern nightstand that is equal parts elegant and functional. The low-profile, glam nightstand with a glass tabletop would look gorgeous next to a lacquered platform bed topped with a luxurious comforter. You can buy the nightstands individually or as a set of two.

Sleek and simple, this minimalist bedside table (sold as a set of two) will fit a variety of small spaces. The three-tier structure is not only eye-catching, it offers space for storage or styling while flanking both sides of the bed. An added plus, it’s handcrafted by artisans in India using die-cut iron in a fair trade facility.
